PORR is constructing the PPP project D4R7
In June 2016, a joint venture comprising PORR and the Spanish company Ferrovial Agroman was awarded the contract for the Design and Build of the 27km motorway section D4 and a 32km access road (R7) in Bratislava. The project is designed to reduce congestion in the Bratislava metropolitan area and provide a high-performance traffic link for commuters travelling into the capital. The contract volume is approximately EUR 860 million and the project is financed as part of a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The newly constructed D4 motorway bypass will comprise 27km of dual carriageway between Jarovce, close to the Austrian border near Kittsee and Raca, which is just north-east of the city. The R7 is a new 32km slip road with two to three lanes each way, creating a radial link from the south-east to the city centre. The contract comprises the design and build of around 60km of motorway, 13 medium large motorway intersections, around 100 smaller bridges and supporting structures, and a 3km bridge across the Danube. The main structures supporting the Danube bridge will be erected using the free cantilever method with a single deck (box girder) and spans of nearly 200m.
Besides constructing two central intersections during ongoing traffic, sourcing the materials for this project constituted the main challenge. A total of 9 million m³ of fill materials will used to build the road on embankment.
The "Bratislava Bypass", which consists of the D4 bypass and the R7 slip road, will be completed in 2021 and will take on a key function for road traffic in and around Bratislava.
